Boîte-en-valise — New Findings
Appropriation · Readymade · Transformation
L.H.O.O.Q., a well-known rectified readymade by Marcel Duchamp, becomes the conceptual starting point for this installation.
By transforming a reproduction through minimal intervention, Duchamp shifted the value of art from execution to choice — from technique to thought.
Within this lineage, Fabrizio Ruggiero reactivates the gesture through fresco, introducing material permanence into a conceptual framework historically rooted in displacement and irony.
“Ready-made” as an artistic operation marks a decisive shift in the history of art: the object is no longer created, but chosen.
Ruggiero introduces a critical inversion: technique is not rejected, but rethought as a mental process.
Through appropriation, he produces a fresco portrait of Duchamp, inserting it into a contemporary visual context.
The monumental red Boîte-en-valise becomes a trompe-l'œil structure.
